Community rules

In order for Sketch a Day to continue to work well as a community, certain rules must be followed.

As an artist submitting work to Sketch a Day, you must abide by these rules. Failure to do so will result in deletion of entries and comments, a suspension and ultimately a ban.

It is your responsibility to adhere to these rules.

If you are unsure about anything, please err on the side of caution, or contact support.

Behaviour

Be nice to each other. Abusive behaviour will result in a ban.
If someone breaks rule 1, don't respond in the same way. Report this to a moderator using the Report button on the comments page.
Remember that the moderators do a difficult job, for free, for your benefit.
Asking for "likes" is not allowed.
Asking for people to "check out your profile" is not allowed.
Asking young people to share details about their school in comments is not allowed.
Persistently asking anyone for personal details is not allowed. (I understand that some people like to find out where people are from, etc. and that is fine as long as the other person is comfortable)
Only 3 submissions per day are allowed.
Reposting old work is not allowed. The whole point of the app is to draw daily, not to "farm" likes.

Originality of work

All work you submit must be your own work. Uploading images you find on Pinterest, Google Images, stock photo sites, etc. will be immediately deleted, without discussion.
All work submitted must be on the day's topic. If your entry is loosely related, please explain the connection to prevent accidental deletion by moderators.
Don't post photos of yourself, your shoes, your dog, etc. even if they relate to the topic. This is an app for drawings only.
If you use a reference, you must say so. If possible, link to the reference you used. There is a Tutorial on using references in the Learn tab.
Do not copy other drawings line-for-line. Using someone else's art as inspiration is OK - this is an app for learning, after all.

Your work may be queried from time-to-time, if we are unsure of the originality. We have tools for checking the image for plagiarism, and we also look at your past posts to see any drastic changes in quality.

Digital art

Digital art is allowed, however there are some extra rules to make sure it is fair to other artists.

You must make every mark on the paper yourself, except for a background color. Composites of photos or other bits of stock imagery are not allowed.
"Digital tracing", where you trace a photograph, and then fill in the colours using the eyedropper tool, must be mentioned in the caption as "Digital trace".
Avoid using brushes that are based on photos or other complex images. A brush for stars or hair, for instance, is ok. But a brush that can draw a complete cloud, or tree, for example is not allowed.
You cannot use "stickers", photo backgrounds or anything like that, even if it is provided by your drawing software.
"Gacha Life", "Toca Life", etc. are not allowed.
3D modeling is allowed, so long as you have crafted every single vertex yourself, and created every texture from scratch, following the same rules as digital drawing. This is a very high bar, deliberately.

Nudity, violence, swearing, etc.

Remember that Sketch a Day is for people of all ages. Therefore, please bear in mind the following:

Representations of graphic violence, suicide, self-harm, etc. will never be allowed on Sketch a Day. It can be very upsetting or triggering to people. Breaking this rule will lead to an immediate 1 day suspension and you will lose your streak. You have been fully warned.
Nudity is allowed, so long as it is tasteful, artistic and not designed to shock or offend. A good question to ask yourself is "Would I show this to my grandmother?".
Sexualized content must be marked as Adult content. This includes non-nude, sexualized imagery.
Swearing in comments is strictly not allowed.
Swearing in images (not captions) is only allowed if you mark your image as having "Adult content".

Arguing with and lying to moderators about plagiarism

This is a personal note from Tom

If you do post stolen work and are caught and your work is deleted, the worst thing you can do is contact support to argue. The best thing you can do is apologise, and start submitting your own drawings.

If you are asked about your work by a moderator, and you then go to the moderator's profile to report their work or put nasty comments, your account will be deleted immediately and without further discussion.

The moderators volunteer to run the community, so complaining, swearing and otherwise retaliating to them doing your job is severely frowned upon by me.
