Fossil frog Rama basaltica from Shandong, China. Exceptionally preserved lake deposit, abt 11 MY old. Reference: Pic: fossilmall.com. The Shanwang biota is another world-class deposit of more than 500 species of animals. Lakes formed in spaces between basalt volcannoes. The fossils were preserved under a rain of diatoms and volcanic ash. The fossils have to be sealed in paraffin in an airtight box or they will crumble away.
